8 Years

June 30th, 2007

I would just like to take a moment to note that as of today my company Sterling Ideas is celebrating 8 full years in business. We incorporated in the summer of 1999, and so far we’re still going strong.

Thank you to our customers and to my friends. It’s been fun, and I look forward to many more years.

Binary Marble Adding Machine

This showed up in my feed reader today, and I wasn’t sure at first which site posted it. I subscribe to many tech feeds and also a few woodworking feeds. This could have come from either.

As it turns out, it came from a woodworking site, but I think there’s as much geek as wood in this binary marble adding machine. If you have a minute, watch the video at the end of the attached page.

Very cool.

Richard Bejtlich at GFIRST

June 26th, 2007

I had the distinct pleasure of spending the day yesterday in Orlando sitting a couple sessions presented by Richard Bejtlich.  In the morning he talked about Network Incident Response and the afternoon was spent on Network Forensics.  I’ve got to say that it was a day well spent.  I follow the TaoSecurity blog and have read most of the Tao of Network Security Monitoring.  I was concerned whether or not the sessions would be a re-hash of the same material.  Thankfully, it was so much more.  Richard is a very good speaker, and he very effectively conveyed both his material and his experience.

I must say congratulations to him for moving on to GE, but it’s also too bad that it will curtail his public speaking.  After the one day yesterday, I would really like the opportunity to attend one of his remaining TCP/IP Weapons School, but I don’t think my schedule will allow it   Too bad.

If you get the chance, I’d highly recommend Richard’s blog and books.  Very good stuff.

Reset

I’m fixing to move this site to another server, and with the move I intend to get back into posting content.  Things took a dive there as work pressures increased, but I expect to see an improvement in the general use of the blog.

Stay tuned!
